Medicare Help for Savannah & Coastal Georgia
From Savannah and Richmond Hill to St. Simons Island and Brunswick, coastal Georgia is one of the fastest-growing places to retire. It's an easy drive up I-95 from Florida, and we're happy to help you sort out your Medicare coverage once you arrive.
Medicare Planning on the Georgia Coast
Coastal Georgia draws retirees from across the country, and especially from Florida. Chatham County is anchored by Savannah, a historic city with two major hospital systems. Bryan County — home to Richmond Hill — is one of the fastest-growing counties in the state, with many residents commuting into Savannah for work and care. Glynn County includes Brunswick and the barrier islands of St. Simons and Jekyll, about 80 miles south of Savannah via I-95.
For Medicare shoppers, the coast offers more hospital choice than Georgia's mountain counties, but network participation still varies by carrier and by plan. Memorial Health and St. Joseph's/Candler are the two main Savannah systems, while Southeast Georgia Health System serves the Brunswick and St. Simons area. Not every Medicare Advantage plan includes every hospital, so confirming your doctors and preferred hospital are in-network is the most important step before enrolling.
Many coastal residents maintain ties to Florida — whether that's a second home, family, or a longtime specialist in Jacksonville. Medicare Advantage plans are generally tied to a service area and don't cover out-of-state doctors as primary care. If that cross-border relationship matters to you, we'll check whether a plan's network extends to your Florida providers, or whether a Medicare Supplement plan that works nationwide is a better fit.
Effingham and Bryan counties are growing quickly, but some specialty care still requires a trip into Savannah. We'll look at how far you're willing to travel for specialists and which plans include providers within that range.

Medicare Plan Considerations for the Coast
Coastal Georgia has more hospital options than the mountain counties, but Medicare Advantage network participation still varies by carrier. We’ll confirm which plans include your preferred Savannah or Brunswick hospital.
If you live on St. Simons Island or in Richmond Hill and prefer to see specialists in Savannah, some plans may limit referrals to in-network providers only. We’ll check the network before you enroll.
Many coastal residents split time between Georgia and Florida. Medicare Advantage plans generally don’t cover out-of-area doctors as primary care, so if you keep a Florida doctor we’ll look for a plan that includes them or discuss a Medicare Supplement option.
Savannah’s Memorial Health serves a large Medicaid population, so if you have both Medicare and Medicaid, there are specialized Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs) we can review together.
What Happens to Your Medicare When You Move
Medicare Advantage plans are tied to a service area, so a Florida plan usually won’t work as your main coverage in Georgia.
A permanent move out of your plan’s service area gives you a Special Enrollment Period to choose a new plan.
If you have a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan, it generally moves with you, but your premium may change. We’ll review it with you.
