If you see a Watson Clinic doctor and you're on a Humana plan, there's a change coming that you need to know about. Starting January 1, 2027, Watson Clinic will no longer accept Humana plans — not just certain HMOs or specialty-only arrangements, but Humana across the board.
For a lot of families in Lakeland and across Polk County, Watson Clinic is their doctor. Primary care, cardiology, dermatology, imaging, urgent care — it's all under one roof. So if your plan stops working there, it's a big deal.
The good news: you have time to fix it, and you don't have to figure it out alone.
Who is affected?
If you have a Humana plan and use Watson Clinic for any of your care, this change affects you. That includes:
- Humana Medicare Advantage members (HMO and PPO plans)
- Humana Special Needs Plans (D-SNP and C-SNP)
- Anyone who sees a Watson Clinic specialist through a Humana plan
If you stay on Humana in 2027 and keep seeing Watson Clinic providers, you could be treated as out-of-network — which can mean much higher costs, or no coverage at all on an HMO.
Your deadline: December 7
For Medicare beneficiaries, the Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7, 2026. That is your window to switch to a plan that Watson Clinic does accept, with your new coverage starting January 1, 2027.
If you miss it, you may be stuck on a plan that doesn't include your doctors for most of next year.
So which plans will Watson Clinic accept?
That's exactly the right question — and it's the one I'd love to help you answer.
Watson Clinic currently works with several other Medicare Advantage carriers, but participation is different from plan to plan. Some plans give you full access to Watson Clinic (including primary care and urgent care), while others only cover specialists. Those details matter, and they can change from year to year.
Before you switch, you'll want to check:
- Is Watson Clinic in-network for the specific plan — not just the carrier?
- Is it full participation or specialty-only? If you want a Watson Clinic doctor as your primary care physician, this matters.
- Are your prescriptions covered on the new plan's drug list, and at what tier?
- Are your other doctors and hospitals (Lakeland Regional, BayCare, AdventHealth, etc.) also in-network?
- What are the total costs — premium, copays, and maximum out-of-pocket?
