Patient reviewing insurance documents after Cigna exits the ACA Marketplace in Florida

If you have a Cigna individual or family plan through the Marketplace (HealthCare.gov), your coverage is ending. Cigna announced in 2026 that it is exiting the ACA individual market, and its Marketplace plans will not renew for 2027. Florida is one of the 11 states affected.

That means you'll need to choose a new plan to stay covered on January 1, 2027.

What does this mean for me?

  • Your Cigna plan stays in effect through December 31, 2026. Keep using it as normal for the rest of this year.
  • It will not renew. You must pick a new plan from another carrier for 2027.
  • Your doctors and prescriptions may not carry over. Every carrier has a different network and drug list, so a new plan needs to be checked carefully.
  • This only affects individual and family Marketplace plans. If you get Cigna through your employer, this change does not apply to you.

Key dates

  • November 1, 2026: Open Enrollment for 2027 begins
  • December 15, 2026: Open Enrollment ends in Florida — choose a new plan by this date for coverage starting January 1
  • January 1, 2027: Your new plan begins

Because your plan is being discontinued, you may also qualify for a Special Enrollment Period — but don't count on that as a backup plan. The safest move is to pick your new coverage during Open Enrollment so there's no gap.

Don't just let the Marketplace pick for you

If you do nothing, the Marketplace may automatically place you in a different plan. That might sound convenient, but the plan you land in may not include your doctors, your hospital, or your medications — and it may not be the best price for your situation.

This is a good time to take a fresh look at everything:

  • Do your doctors take the new plan?
  • Are your prescriptions covered?
  • Is your income estimate up to date so your tax credit is accurate?
  • Would a different metal level (Bronze, Silver, Gold) save you money?
